  • G20 - Le Club Capitaliste Vient À Montréal
The G-20, a group of finance capitalists like the G-7 and WTO, are meeting in Montreal. There have already been arrests at the mass protests, and YFISers are there with material in French and English. This report is in French. (October 25, 2000)
  • Alberta Health workers defeat right-wing government
After 2 days of illegal strike, 10,000 licensed nurses, support staff and mental health workers have defeated the Tory provincial government. They gained a 16% raise over 2 years in the largest strike in Alberta’s history. What is more, workers have struck back and won in the traditional heartland of Canadian conservatism. (May 27, 2000)
  • Canadian Labor Rejects Third Way
Following in the footsteps of Tony Blair, Labour leader Alexa McDonough has been trying to steer Canada's New Democratic Party to the right.  However, despite getting a number of policy commitments through, she was met with very stiff resistance at the party's convention at the end of August.  (October, 1999)
  • Third Way? No way!
We hear a lot about the Third Way these days. But does this represent anything new or is it just the socialdemocrats recognising that there is no longer any room for manouvre? Barbara Humphries looks at where these ideas come from and what do they really mean. (October 19, 1999).
  • What Now For Quebec Labour?
The month long strike by 47,000 nurses in Quebec is over. Nurses are back on the job with no contract after rejecting a weak contract agreement reached by the union leadership and the provincial government.  (September, 1999)
  • Demand Efficient Health Care!
A look at the problems associated with the almost mythical Canadian healthcare system - only a socialist approach can save it!
  • Nurses Fight Back
Across Canada the nurses have proved themselves the most resolute fighters against right-wing cut backs. In every province the issues are the same. Nurses have had their wages frozen for a number of years, many nurses find themselves doing 3 or 4 part-time positions with no security, and subsequently, enrolment is at an all time low leading to chronic understaffing.
  • Nationalism or Socialism? A Look at the Problems in Québec
The recent election in Québec has once again brought to the fore the question of Québec separation. The Parti Québecois and the Liberals espouse their opinions on separation and federalism. Both clearly represent the bourgeois perspective and interests. But who talks about issues facing workers and youth? What are the socialist alternatives to the problems in Québec? (February 1999)
