  • China, America and the Pacific
The clash between China and the USA over the crashed spy plane has thrown into sharp relief the tensions between the great powers in Asia. The incident in itself was an accident. But dialectics explains that necessity can be expressed through accident. Underlying the immediate incident lie fundamental contradictions between China and the USA. By Ted Grant and Alan Woods. (April 23, 2001)
  • China - Revolution in Preparation
Phil Mitichinson reviews the increasing difficulties in the road to capitalism in China, the recent workers' uprisings and concludes that "in the next period international capital will feel the ground quake under the impact of millions of Chinese workers on the move". (April 26, 2000)
  • China Splits at the Top, Revolt from Below
Outraged by the NATO bombing of the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia, almost a million people took to the streets on the mainland. The Chinese Vice Premier Hu Jintao announced on TV that although NATO attacked China’s embassy, "reform and opening up will continue". Voices questioning the pro-capitalist path have grown louder, gaining a base amongst CCP members, lower levels of the bureaucracy, the workers and youth.  (May 24, 1999)
  • 10 Years on: Assessing Tiananmen Today
The Tiananmen events of ten years ago, are the subject of serious consideration inside China today.  Find out what really happened at Tiananmen Square!  (May 19, 1999)
  • China: The Death of Deng
The death of Deng Xiaoping opens up a new chapter for China. Over the last 20 years since the death of Mao, the shift towards opening up the economy to capitalist interests has intensified the contradictions of Chinese society.  (February 20, 1997)
  • The Reform of State Owned Industry "Smashing the Iron Bowl"
A detailed analysis of the process of urban reform and the resistance of the working class. (Qiu Lihua, 1997)
  • On the 5th anniversay of Tiananmen Square: Where is China going?
Written in 1994, this document remains fundamentally true. It is an in-depth analysis of the class character of the Chinese regime, the process of capitalist reforms and the tensions these are generating. A must for anyone trying to understand the changes taking place in Chinese society today. Socialist Appeal editorial board, June 13, 1994.

Chen Duxiu and the Chinese Trotskyists  (by Zheng Chaolin)
Zheng Chaolin spent a total of thirty four years in gaol seven under the Guomindang and for twenty seven under the CCP. His knowledge of the pre-revolutionary history of the CCP and in particular of the thought and life of its founder Chen Duxiu is second to none. Chen Du Xiu was the founder the Chinese Communist Party. Chen was not only the leading figure in the Communist Party, this humble, colourful and brilliant man is second only to Mao in his influence on China. (Whilst sharing none of the blame for the totalitarian Maoist distortions and falsification of Marxism and Socialism.) He was the leader of the May 4th Movement in 1919. So powerful was his influence that even Mao had to admit "we are all students of Chen Du Xiu". Between the 1919 and 1927 he was considered to be the Lenin of China. Chen spent many years in Guo min dang prisons, and was a towering influence on Chinese literature, language and politics. Chen's ghost still haunts the Chinese Communist Party leadership today who are unable to extricate themselves from his politcal or cultural influence. (Zhengchaolin's "Chen Duxiu" in Chinese)

"To all Members of the Chinese Communist Party"
The supressed letter of Chen Duxiu.  This letter contains Chen's most important suppressed letter which he wrote after being outsed as General Secretary of the CCP.
