Legislating manners in Louisiana

The "great" state of Louisiana is at it again. This time the state seeks to regulate civility. Students from kindergarden through fifth grades are now required to address adults in school as Mr., Mrs., or Miss or face disciplinary action. This action is part of the wave of actions following the Columbine incident. I fail to see how this brand of discipline will translate to less violence in our schools.

What's next-legislating the government's brand of "morality"? The killings at Columbine and the recent hate crimes perpetrated against minorites in Illinois and Indiana by racist Benjamin Nathaniel Smith reveal the fundamental flaws in the setup of American society. Ludicrous laws like the one passed in Louisiana is not the solution for a society where the citizens are fed the propoganda that they live in a free society. This illusion of freedom, justice, and righteousness can only be fought by telling people the truth about their way of life. I hope that YFIS undertakes a mass education campaign whereby we can actually try and get the facts out to the people through the internet and all means possible.
