JJacobins - Members of the Jacobin Club, the most radical political faction in the French Revolution, which ruled from the overthrow of the Gironde until Thermidor. They over threw the Girondists in 1792-93 and ruled supreme until the execution of the Jacobin leader Robespierre, in July, 1794. - 1867-1919. Active in revolutionary movement from early youth; close collaborator of Rosa Luxemburg; founder of Polish revolutionary Social Democracy, and active in 1905 Polish revolution; escaped to Germany 1907; organizer of Spartacus group during war. A member of the KPD central committee, he opposed the January 1919 uprising, and was arrested and murdered by the Freikorps in March 1919.Back to the Glossary of Marxist Terms
